What is AYF Cheerleading?

If you are new to AYF cheerleading, all cheerleaders participate in sideline cheering for football. The Union Cross Bobcats Cheer program offers D8, D10 squads. They will perform an exhibition routine at the local cheer competition at the end of the season.  Cheerleaders are expected to fully participate in games and exhibition / competition until completion of the season.

When are practices?
Cheerleaders typically practice Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights 6:15pm -8:00pm.

When are games?
Games are Saturdays, beginning approximately the second or third week of August and running through the end of the season. Yes, we cheer in the rain. All cheerleaders are expected to be at all games. We have a strong connection with our football teams and we are proud to cheer for them.

How does competition work?

Cheer competition is progressive from local (PYFCL) to regional to the national level. In order to advance to the next level, a team must earn 1st or 2nd place in their division. Teams who do not have competitors in their division must earn a minimum score. There is no “automatic advance”. Teams must perform their 2 ½ minute routine at their best. No second chances.

When is competition?

Competition is exhibition style for D8 only, the other divisions are expected to participate in local, regional and national competition if they place high enough.

Local Competition is typically the last Sunday of October. Regional Competition is typically the Friday following Thanksgiving. Locations vary year to year. Travel is usually required. Teams travel on Thanksgiving. National competition is held in Florida. It is usually the second week of December
